Gippsland Women Leading Locally

A business and community leadership program was launched in Warragul on 18th March. The series consists of quarterly forums that will focus on building the skills, knowledge and confidence of women to take on leadership roles. The first of the series took the form of a luncheon at Danny’s the Venue, Warragul.

The initiative has been developed after 22 Warragul women came together in November 09 to discuss the status of women in leaderships roles within their community.

Their conversation focused on the need in the region for a strong presence of women in leadership positions and the barriers that women face in taking on these roles.

The women identified the need for a regular, structured professional and personal development program focused on providing women in the area with the knowledge and skills they need to success in business or in the community.

Following this meeting, Westpac and the Education Centre Gippsland (ECG) agreed to partner, with the support of Learn Work Develop in the Baw Baw Shire to design, develop and convene a series of quarterly forums.

The first forum featured Larke Riemer, the National Head of Westpac Women’s Markets. Larke has 25 years working for Westpac in a variety of roles and has been instrumental in driving a range of strategies to assist women in becoming successful both professionally and personally. Larke said, “We’re excited to be partnering with such a prestigious organisation to provide these essential forums for women in the Gippsland area. By working together we will be able to enhance the leadership skills of local women to ensure they have the necessary skills to succeed and achieve their ambitions, whether they are personal or business”.
